The history of Riad Dar Jdati follows the history of Marrakech. Indeed, this Riad is close to Jemaa El Fna Square and the Koutoubia Mosque. It is located in the medina between the Dabachi and Ben Salah districts, where the great painter Majorelle lived.
The memories evoked by the first owners date back to the early 19th century when the Riad was built, so about 200 years ago.
It has changed a lot since then. During the last major works in 2008, we noticed that the level of the house had risen about a meter in height following the various renovations.
We were therefore able to date it to the 1820s in its current layout. Knowing that two adjoining Riads originally formed the same property.
The Riad is located in two districts: Derb Doula (upper gate) and Derb Jdid (lower gate).
The wealthy Marrakchis owned homes with two distinct exits to flee in case of need, during periods of invasions in times of war.
The 2008 renovation did not touch the load-bearing walls, made of earth, with the rammed earth technique reinforced with straw.
The layout of the rooms has remained as is, which gives an insight into authentic life in a Riad. All the life of the house is organized in the patio around the small garden and the fountain.
When you rent the riad, Moroccan breakfast is included, it will be served to you every morning by Ahmed.
We also offer a Menu that you can order up to 3 hours in advance, we bring an experienced cook who will make you discover the delights of the best cuisine in the World such as a delicious couscous or a tajine.
